The haunting melodies of Apparition By: Rx Bandits are chilling to the bone. I love this song for its echoing melodies imitating memories and ghosts. Rx Bandits is famous for having those soulful oohh’s and yeaah baby’s which fit here perfectly. One of the reasons I fell in love with Rx Bandits because they utilize trumpets, trombones and saxophones very well. Here, the instruments provide backup low in the background accompanied by a keyboard while the drums take a relaxed beat in the background which is worth a listen on its own. The keyboard falls and rises in the background as an excellent counter-melody. The vocal melodies are saturated with emotion as he compares his lover as a “wandering soul” or an apparition. This album has an emotional story to tell about this man’s love for a girl he can’t let go of which is an analogy for his addiction to heroin. In “Aparition” his drug addiction is seducing him and floating around his head to come back to her. It’s hard to resist singing along, especially for me, “Memories float like specters, keep on haunting me evermore” as the song ends the keyboard is left now playing the counter melody as ambient echoes rise and fade away.
